Update from Sderot
Plans for the construction of a new Women’s Health Care Center in Sderot, Israel, funded in part by NA’AMAT USA, are proceeding at a brisk pace. Shirli Shavit, Director of the International Department of NA’AMAT, reports that the new center is expected to be complete by Pesach 2017.
Spotlight: Judy Telman
Judy Telman moved from Skokie, Illinois to Israel 33 years ago. She and her husband, Stewart, were following in the footsteps of three of their adult children, who had previously made aliyah. Although two of those children have since returned to the United States, Judy and Stewart found a rewarding life in the Jewish homeland and currently reside inMevasseret Ziyyon on the outskirts of Jerusalem, where Judy continues her lifelong commitment to social issues and women’s rights as a volunteer for NA’AMAT Israel.
“An Afternoon of Beauty”
A group of formerly homeless women and their teenage daughters living in a Boyle Heights emergency shelter were recently treated to an “afternoon of beauty” courtesy of the San Fernando Valley Chapter of NA’AMAT USA.
NA’AMAT USA Appoints Deanna Migdal National Executive Director
NA’AMAT USA has appointed Deanna Migdal National Executive Director. Deanna will work alongside our President and National Board of Directors in leading the organization, managing current activities and planning for its future.
A Memorable Weekend in Las Vegas
NA’AMAT USA’s Gala Celebration in Las Vegas was a huge success. It was a weekend of fun and inspiring speakers, a chance to reconnect with old friends, and a great opportunity to celebrate 90 years of supporting women, children and families in Israel. We are very grateful to those whose hard work made it possible, and for all those wonderful members and friends who took time from their busy lives to attend.
NA’AMAT Annual Scholarship Awards 2016
The Annual NA’AMAT Scholarship Ceremony took place last Monday with the participation of Galia Wolloch, President NA’AMAT Israel, Masha Lubelsky, President NA’AMAT Scholarship Fund, Prof. Hanna Naveh from Tel Aviv University, Head of the committee for research grants in gender studies, and Prof. Shosh Arad, President Ruppin Academic Center, Head of the committee for research grants in Science.
Spotlight: Cologne Peace Daycare Center
The Cologne Peace Daycare Center in Jaffa is unique among NA’AMAT facilities in Israel. It was the first daycare center to offer bilingual (Hebrew and Arabic) education and the first to serve a mixed population of students. Of the 67 children currently enrolled in the center approximately half are Jewish, one-quarter are Arabic-Muslim and one-quarter are Arabic-Christian.
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Receives NA’AMAT USA’s Golda Meir Humanitarian Award
NA’AMAT USA has presented Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg with its 2016 Golda Meir Humanitarian Award. National Board Officers and members from around the country travelled to Washington, D.C. for the presentation, which took place May 3rd in the Supreme Court’s East Conference Room.
NA’AMAT USA’s Ivy Liebross Addresses Women’s Passover Celebration
Ivy Liebross, National Vice President of Leadership Development for NA’AMAT USA and past President of the organization’s San Fernando Valley Council, recently discussed the organization’s mission before a group of more than 200 women attending a “Women of Passover” celebration hosted by Valley Beth Shalom’s N’Shama Minyan. The event was held on Saturday, April 16th at Valley Beth Shalom in Encino.
NA’AMAT USA’s Susan Isaacs Speaks at Orthodox Temple in Reseda
Susan Isaacs, a member of NA’AMAT USA’s San Fernando Valley Council, Eilat Chapter, talked about the organization’s work in behalf of women, children and families in Israel in a recent speech to congregants of Eretz Cultural Center, an Orthodox Persian Temple in Reseda.
