Many sheltered Jews in their homes, provided false documentation, or guided them to safety in neutral territories. Their acts of courage often came at great personal risk, with severe consequences, including execution, if discovered. The term, established by Israel’s Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial, honors their selflessness and humanity during one of history’s darkest periods, reminding the world of the power of moral courage and compassion.
