Nadera Tannous is the director of the NA’AMAT Technological School, a high school in Nazareth that helps Israeli Arab girls, who have previously struggled in school, become empowered and contributing members of society. The school prepares girls for college and also provides vocational training in a variety of careers.
Celebrate Israel’s birthday, April 22, in New York City
Yom Ha’atzmaut, scheduled for April 22 in New York City, is a very special community celebration commemorating Israel’s birthday. NA’AMAT USA is a sponsor of this first annual event which will include a Megillah Reading of Israel’s Declaration of Independence and a cantorial concert. If you live near or will be visiting New York in April, we encourage you to attend. There is no cost to attend, but pre-registration is required.
US delegates meet Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, attend groundbreaking for a new day care center.
Leaders of NA’AMAT USA joined representatives of the organization from Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Belgium, Argentina, Uruguay and Israel last week for the first NA’AMAT International Solidarity Conference in Israel. The delegation, led by national president Elizabeth Raider, were special guests of the President of Israel Reuven Rivlin during the conference’s opening session on February 10. Raider addressed the group on behalf of NA’AMAT USA.
Hagit Pe’er is the chairperson of NA’AMAT in the Negev Region. She oversees 14 day care centers, two targeting at-risk youth, as well as a women’s rights center that provides legal counseling and other services to more than 1,300 women and families each year.
US delegates will be honored as guests of Israel’s president at opening session and later attend groundbreaking ceremonies for a new day care center.
NA’AMAT USA will send a delegation of more than 30 members to the annual NA’AMAT International Conference scheduled for February 10-16 in Israel. The delegation will be led by national president Elizabeth Raider and will include national officers and representatives from chapters across the United States. The NA’AMAT USA delegation will be honored as special guests of the President of Israel, Reuven Rivlin, during the conference’s opening session on February 10. Raider will address the group on behalf of NA’AMAT USA and 8 sister countries.
